Surfing is best during the months of May through to August. The island location is perfect for windsurfing using the trade winds from April to October.

The beach of Las Cucharas is one good place to windsurf and is host to major windsurfing schools.

For the more experienced looking for larger waves the areas of Famara and Jameos del Agua in the North East of the Island is the place to be.

For beginners La Santa on the west coast is best

The closest area to Puerto del Carmen is Matagorda just North East of the town.
